Prevent A Sore Throat With A Natural Immune System Boost
If the cold virus is bearing down on you, you’re probably wondering how to prevent a sore throat. It’s pretty hard to prevent it completely, because it’s hard to avoid catching a cold in the first place. If you’re within six feet of someone who has one, you’re probably already infected, since the virus is spread by coughing and sneezing.
The best bet is to boost your immune system so you can fight off viral invaders more effectively. These tips can help.
Give Yourself A Natural Immune System Boost
The best thing you can do for yourself is to take a walk just about every day. People who get out for a half-hour walk each day are half as likely to get sick as the ones who camp out inside for the winter. Plus a daily walk will help to reduce stress. Just getting away from things for a half hour will improve your outlook on life considerably.
The negative effects of stress on the immune system are well known. Do whatever you can to get it down to a manageable level.
Wash your hands often. The cold virus is also spread by touching contaminated surfaces. That innocent-looking pen, or the phone, or your computer keyboard are probably all teeming with unpleasant little bugs waiting to ruin your day. Keeping your hands washed gets rid of the nasty things.
On a related note, remember to replace your toothbrush every month, and especially if you’ve just recovered from a sore throat or cold. An elderly toothbrush can carry all sorts of icky little viruses and bacteria. And you’re sticking them right in your mouth where they can start wreaking havoc all over again.
If you smoke, try to stop. Avoid secondhand smoke, as it can increase your susceptibility to whatever is going around.
Don’t share drinking glasses or spoons and forks with someone who’s sick. Don’t drink out of the same pop or water bottle either.
Eat more mushrooms! You probably don’t know it, but mushrooms are loaded with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that help protect you from illness. This is an easy and tasty way to stay healthy.
Make sure you’re eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies, too. Fresh produce is bursting with antioxidants and bioflavoids that keep your cells healthy. Viruses attack cells directly, so a healthy cell can resist viral raiders better.
Drink plenty of fluids to keep your mucous membranes from drying out.
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Eight hours a night is best.
Take extra vitamin C, along with garlic supplements. Raw garlic is probably best, but it can be hard on both your social life, and your stomach.
Try aromatherapy. Essential oils of thyme, eucalyptus, geranium, and sandalwood have antiseptic or antiviral properties. Aromatherapy can also help reduce stress, which in turn helps you sleep better.
Give yourself a natural immune system boost. Prevent a sore throat by not letting a cold get the upper hand.
