About Me
Welcome to Natural Health And Wellness Tips! My name is Darlene Norris, and I’m a 50-something granny who lives in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan.
I want to point out right away that I am NOT a doctor, and I cannot give anyone any medical advice whatsoever. If you have a health problem, please see your doctor. The articles on this blog are for informational purposes only.
I also earn my living online, so I will receive a commission from any purchases you make through links on this blog. Living in the UP is great, but jobs are hard to come by up here. I solved the problem by making my own job by writing online!
I’m not raking in millions or anything, but what I bring in funds our monthly shopping extravaganzas at St. Vinny’s, as we affectionately refer to our local St. Vincent De Paul thrift store. It pays for an occasional meal out, too, as well as a few other extras like heat and lights! So I thank you in advance for your purchases through my links.
Now that the legalese is out of the way, we can get to the fun stuff!
I started out in upstate New York, where I spent the first 21 years of my life. Since then, it’s been a wild ride. I’ve lived in Tennessee, Kentucky, South Dakota, Colorado, and now in Michigan. I spent a few months on the Navajo reservation in Arizona helping at a home for foster children, and I’ve lived in an Amish community in Tennessee, where I made some good friends among the Plain People. I’ve heated my house with a woodstove, and learned how to cook on it, too. I’ve lived on a small acreage in South Dakota, where we raised most of our own food. While living there, I had dairy goats, sheep, chickens, cats, dogs, calves, geese, and even pigs.
Now I live in town, and I love it! It’s great to be able to walk to the library, and the bank. And I get to walk on the beach along the Lake Superior shoreline nearly every day, even in the winter.
My interests include quilting, knitting, weaving, and gardening. One interest I’ve had all my life is natural health. I’ve used herbs and vitamin supplements over the years to successfully treat many minor ailments.
We’re blessed to live in a time and place where we can visit a doctor for life-saving treatments. But I don’t like to running to the doctor for every little thing that comes along. When I was growing up, my mom usually gave us kids a few days to get over minor ailments by ourselves. If we didn’t get better after a couple of days, or if we got worse, then she’d take us to the doctor. And most of the time, we’d get better by ourselves.
I do want to emphasize that if you try a natural remedy for a day or two, and your condition either doesn’t improve, or gets worse, go see your doctor. Also, if you or someone you know is having a medical emergency, get to a doctor or an ER right away. If you take any prescription medications, always check with your doctor before taking any natural remedies to prevent potentially dangerous drug interactions.
As you may have noticed, I do have a healthy sense of humor. My hubby Andrew and I share a few belly laughs every day. He says he never knows what I’m going to say next! My take is that nobody gets outta here alive, so you might as well have a good time along the way.
Are there any health conditions you’d like me to write about? I’m always open to suggestions. Shoot me an email, and I’ll see what I can do!
